URINARY INCONTINENCE INSTITUTE

URINARY INCONTINENCE INSTITUTE

Urological physiotherapy

The Urinary Incontinence Institute is located in our Hospital
in building "A" on the first floor.

For patients with urinary incontinence or other pelvic dysfunctions, an appropriate solution to problems has been developed.

In the Urinary Incontinence Laboratory, patients will be able to benefit from physiotherapy and therapeutic program.

PHYSIOTHERAPY CONSULTATIONS

PHYSIOTERAPY

  • before surgery in women in case of stress urinary incontinence
  • in men before and after urological surgery
  • in case of stress urinary incontinence
  • in the case of failures after stress incontinence
  • in the case of urge incontinence
  • after operations in the pelvic area
  • in the case of pelvic pain syndromes, difficulty in passing urine - behavioral therapy

We start the treatment with medical and physiotherapeutic diagnostics, to determine the causes of the problem and to determine the method of further treatment.
Physiotherapists will support the work of a physiotherapist.

First visit to a physiotherapist as part of a therapeutic program:

In the Laboratory of Urinary Incontinence, patients will be able to
use many physiotherapeutic methods,
among others these are:

Exercises of the pelvic floor muscles - popularly called Kegel exercises. The pelvic floor muscles have a supportive function and are therefore responsible for maintaining urine in the bladder. Exercises consist in performing a few seconds of contraction of the pelvic floor muscles ...... Expand full text ... with adequate strength and then loosening them. Such exercises repeated regularly strengthen muscles and improve their function. The first effects of regular exercises are visible after about 6 weeks. In order for the exercises to bring satisfactory, lasting effects, a longer time of therapy is needed. Exercises for each patient should be selected individually, so that they shape strength, endurance and coordination of muscles, because only in this way can they give positive results. The advantages of pelvic floor muscle exercises is that they can be performed at home, but first The patient should learn to properly train under the supervision of a physiotherapist. To increase the effectiveness of exercises, they are used in combination with other physiotherapeutic methods, eg with sEMG biofeedback or electrostimulation.

sEMG Biofeedback - this method is used in patients with stress and mixed incontinence and urgency. The method consists in learning the conscious tightening and relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles... Expand full text ... because during the treatment, the patient observes the work of his muscles on the computer monitor. The improvement concerns the function of muscles and their strength. As with other methods of conservative treatment of urinary incontinence, it is recommended that the therapy last for about 3 months. It is also safe for patients after surgical treatment of prostate cancer.

Electrostimulation of the pelvic floor muscles - this is a highly effective method that reduces the symptoms of stress urinary incontinence and when the cause of urinary incontinence is a disturbance of the innervation of the pelvic floor muscles and thus leads to an improvement in the quality of life.... Expand full text ... It involves strengthening the muscles, strength and power of the pelvic floor muscles. The effect of using electrostimulation is also to reduce the detrusor overactivity by inhibiting reflexes associated with passing urine. During electrostimulation, vaginal electrodes are most commonly used. Contraindications to the use of this method is: urinary incontinence extravascular, retention of urine in the upper urinary tract, denervation of the pelvis, vesicoureteral reflux, intrauterine device in women of reproductive age. The first positive effects of electrostimulation are visible quickly, but therapy should continue for a period of three months.

ETS - this method uses its own pelvic floor muscle activity, which activates electrical stimulation. The combination of pelvic floor muscle exercises and electrical stimulation increases the effectiveness of therapy.Behavioral therapy - it is popularly called bladder training. This is a conscious learning of controlled urination (ie learning behaviors, habits and reflexes).... Expand full text ... This therapy allows you to "train" the impulse inhibition of the bladder detrusor muscle contraction. It is most often used in the case of urinary incontinence: stress, mixed, and in the case of instability of the bladder detrusor muscle.

IMPORTANT!

In electrostimulation treatments, special intravaginal or rectal electrodes are used (information provided by a physiotherapist). In our facility, pelvic floor muscle exercises are supported through visualization on the screen (so-called biofeedback), which makes the therapy more effective. In this case, special intravaginal or rectal electrodes are used (information provided by a physiotherapist).
